I find it hard to believe that people thought a town the size of Dover would get a full blown general hospital. Would have been nice to see it have a birthing unit for local mums to be though.
About 4 years back I was down for a procedure known as "camera up the khyber" sorry to be technical, it involved a 3 and half hour round trip journey to see a consultant for 5 minutes then a week later the same time again to see a nurse who explained what would happen. A year later the same thing was repeated with the camera going the other way.
From now on the first two legs of the journey will be done the same day at Dover hospital with only the procedure elsewhere, this will happen with many other procedures.
