courtesy of the east kent mercury.
A huge statue of the white Invicta horse - the symbol of Kent - will be put up just outside Dover if planners approve.
A planning application is expected to be submitted soon to the district council to put up the statue on the cliffs at Little Farthingloe Farm, close to the A20 near Maxton. Land has already been earmarked.
The statue has been designed by Ian Morrison, from Wingham, who said the next step was getting planning permission and then raising the £2 million which he estimates the statue will cost.
He came up with the design of a rampant horse after seeing Mark Wallinger's winning entry for the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project, popularly christened the Angel of the South.
With its four hooves firmly placed on the ground, Mr Morrison said it was not the right type of horse for a county landmark. Mr Morrison's design rapidly gained popularity among Kent people and is also supported by Alex King, deputy leader of Kent County Council.

Hmmm. a large horse lost in the mist at Capel-Le-Fog, better off spending it on some of our heritage that really needs the money.
(I believe this is all to do with the planning application for the old Eurotunnel Village and Western Heights)
Been nice knowing you :)

Just read the article:
"on the cliffs at Little Farthingloe Farm, close to the A20 near Maxton" and
"horse will be seen from Boulogne and Calais as visitors arrive at Dover."
Rather misleading as I think it would be on the right as you start decending into Dover on the A20 (you will see the concrete lift shaft into one of the magazine of the old Hougham Battery"

Try this for size - Little Farthingloe Farm in in the valley and not particularly visible from the sea. The Horse I suspect will be in this sort of area or on the ridge at least

This is one plan that I hope gets refused and if planning is granted I hope they never manage to raise the money.

I think the money would be much better spent in smartening/restoring/revitalising Dover's present assets.

I think planning rules will stop it happening anyway (hopefully) being stuck on the skyline of the world famous iconic white cliffs
