    I disagree. All of the countries you cite are mostly mono-cultural. Like it or not the more people are 'like us' the more we are willing to help them. It's down to evolutionary biology.

    Also if you look at the thousands of food banks around the world they tend to be in 'Christian' countries having spread from North America initially to the Americas and Europe - though alternative facility offering food to the hungry can be found worldwide wherever there are sizeable Sikh communities.

    There is very comparatively little 'charity' in Muslim countries - in spite of their concept of Sadaqa and Zakat - probably because it is a fairly primitive 'fatalistic' religion, always wittering about 'Insha'Allah' rather than giving adherents agency in sorting out their future - one only has to look at the willingness for the Saudis to provide flat pack mosques for refugees to help them in the next world rather than the shelter they might find useful in this.
