18:5064796received a letter through the post this morning from my insurer asking why i had not renewed and that my cover ran out today.
i made a panic stricken phone call, stated that i had not had a renewal notice.
the calming voice assured me that it was no problem and that i could renew over the phone, i agreed and asked how much it was.
twice what it was last year!!
i ended the call, made a few checks on the internet and found many that were less than half sometimes a third less than my present insurers.
seems to me that my insurer of the last 15 years thought that it was time to try it on, even though they never get a claim from me.
this was a major high street bank, be warned.

19:0464799Better off never go to banks Howard for any kind of advice or insurance. There are better routes than being a 'captive' of often poor quality products and 'limited advice'.

i have always felt comfortable with household names when purchasing gas, electricity, phone and insurance, clearly time for me to move on.
in my original post i said " a third less", it should have read a third of my main quote.
one of them was from that dog off of the adverts.

20:0164814I had a similar problem two years ago. I suddenly got a letter saying that my insurance had automatically been renewed as I hadn't cancelled when I got the renewal notice (which I had never recieved). As I was busy I let it go but made a note for the next year.
Lo and behold a renewal notice popped in my door in May from the Prudential. It was for very nearly £600. So I shopped around only to find that most insurers wouldn't touch it as it is a listed building. I eventually found one however who quoted me about £250, so I said yes.
I then phoned the Pru to cancel. "Why are you leaving us sir" they enquired. I told them it was becuase I had found something cheaper and indeed with better cover and less excess. They asked to look at it again and came back saying that they could match it! "So you will be staying with us then sir" they said.
My response was that as they had ripped my off for years they could stuff it.

20:2764822If you went purely by reputation Bern in my industry you would avoid household names!

20:3064824i shall bow the knee.
barry and bern are right, probably because deregulation in some areas over the years has opened the door to new talents that were previously kept under wraps.

Hi I have gone through your topic on home insurance it is really helpful to know and renewal date of your insurance policy is based on the date your policy took effect. So it could actually take place on any day of the year depending on when you originally started the policy.
