I agree with Bern, Gervais was perfect in a sitcom in the past, but personally I can't take to him, I cannot see the attraction. I got fed up with seeing him on what seemed nearly every other Jonathan Ross tv programme and feel as a stand-up he doesen't work, his humour I find a bit 'cringe worthy' to say the least.
I hope he takes on american citizenship and stays over there, maybe as PaulB says they thought that he would have been more 'cheeky chappie' (aka 'cockerney' Dick van Dyke Cor luverly Guvn'r, Gawd Bless 'er) which they seem to like, but then again I like Bovril
