  I will probably sound a bit fuddy duddy but here goes: Gervais sitcoms have been very funny, but his stand-up has not, he just tries to offend and the effort isn't worth the pay off. I end up not offended but not amused either. And I think it is probably bad manners to take the money and hospitality to present a ceremony that the people attending take seriously and then blow gas in their faces. Their lack of humour is funny enough and does not bear the heavy-handed irony that gervais thinks is amusing. His mis-judgements, poor timing and childish attempts to offend cloaked in the guise of "pushing the envelope" fall flat for me. So: Gervais, go write some more sitcoms and zip it.
