People should declare their income, no argument there and £billions is lost due to this not being done, tips, cash jobs etc.
But - is it all lost to the revenue. What about the economic activity it generates and the VAT on purchases?
Our over complex tax system is part of the problem.
Low flat and simple taxes with a high personal tax allowance is the way forward for which a wholescale simplification and reform is needed. Far better than such hit and miss campaigns. As always a problem being tackled from the wrong direction.
