the police have to be held to account of course but some liverpool fans were responsible for what happened on the day. in the era of terraces all tickets for semi finals and finals were clearly marked that the bearer has to be in the ground one hour before kick off to ensure that the stewards could pack people in properly.

on that day many supporters rolled out of the pub next to the ground and forced their way in causing impossible congestion. i have seen this myself at semi finals i have attended at Villa Park. It is totally frightening and the minority of fans that did this meant that terraces were closed and football made unaffordable to many since then.

I assume you can back this up, because the Hillsborough Independent Panel found otherwise. Even Lord Justice Taylor stated that fan behaviour played no part in the disaster.

Hillsborough was a disaster waiting to happen. There had been problems previously at the Leppings Lane End, and Hillsborough itself had no valid safety certificate. I have read comments elsewhere from fans who had visited that ground, on other occasions, who say that they were not surprised by the disaster at all.

It is really disappointing that, despite all the enquiries, people still claim that drunken, ticketless Liverpool fans were to blame. There really is no defending that position any more.
