That's a shame about the High and Dry; Jean and I used to go in there regularly a while ago; it was (then) a Landlady who ran it but her husband died and shortly afterwards, she sold it and the various people who took it over just kept increasing the price of the food (and drink) without improving the quality of the food, which deteriorated after that Landlady left.
Too many pubs/pub-restaurants put up the prices of their food and price themselves out of the market.
The owner of the White Horse is now a very rich man owing to his parents leaving him loads and seems to play at running it now.
Five minutes away from there is Blakes in Castle Street - a great cellar bar and lunchtime food and for the duration of this year, there will be real ales, ciders and wines (1.75 ml glass) - all from £1.95. each that is, not all three !
