from the 15th november , eu laws are getting tougher on drivers with type 1 diabetes
as was siad last week about 75% of lorries coming out of dover or tunnel are foreign
so has to be asked who is going to check these forgien drivers to see if they have diabets from outside the eu ?
a great story for one of our local papers to pick up on , which could then get into the nationals

what about those from inside the european union too?
many of their trucks are not roadworthy i suspect some of their drivers are not also.
Type one is controlled by tablet so if the driver takes is med then there should not be a problem and even if he dose not with regular food and drinks he will be ok type 2 is tablet and daily insulin there could be a problem there if that is not taken at the right times he can have an ipo
and lose control of his lorry I am type two and Doctor has to give yearly reports to DVLA any change for the worst I'M off the road, but if it did get any worse I would take myself off the road and have someone drive me.

All the type 1 patients I have known have been on insulin pumps or multiple daily injections. Many type 2 patients on the other hand can control it with diet and exercise. Those who can't often have pills and (in the early stages following diagnosis) also injections.
A very close friend, colleague and mentor of mine was type 1. He had several daily injections but ignored dietary advice particularly where alcohol intake was concerned. As a result he suffered from glaucoma and went blind at the age of 35. He then stopped drinking but died four years later.
