2nd january at 1.30 pm there is another walk organised by the white cliffs countryside partnership.
meet up at st martin's battery car park on south military road and the walk is 4 miles taking about 2 hours, a glass of mulled apple juice at the finish.
the suggested donation is £.2 again, it will be led by melanie wrigley who can be contacted on 07880 706990.
doesn't say whether dogs are allowed.
best to note the walk is steep in places.

Paul,
You might like to mention our new and sad discovery. He's in Row B very close to the Irish Guardsman and Royal West Kent private killed by shelling.
This is L/Cpl Victor Park of the 5th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment killed on the 30th December 1940. At the time his Regiment was stationed in the Grand Shaft Barracks area and billeted inside the Drop Redoubt for protection against shelling. What is remarkable about this grave is that we've found his name in the Side Arms Store in the Redoubt where he must have scribbled it one night during November or December.
I'm trying to find out details about him and his sad death at the moment, but I'd imagine it was either via shelling or bombing.

Thanks Roger. I've checked the DWMP website and Maggie does not have anything on him. I will send her all the details I have when I hit a brick wall trying to gather information. I have contributed half a dozen over the last couple of years to the project and have a couple more pending. There is a lot of overlap between our groups and we do try to help each other when we can.

A good turnout of 16 people today which make it an easy pleasant stroll - a lot of history to cover in a relatively short time !!
Next month we will be back with some Western Heights walks (and may include a few new bits from Phil's recent discoveries...)
