Stone circles are ten-a-penny, there is only one Grand Shaft

Some would say neglect of heritage that certain bodies are 'guardians' of is on a level with the vandalism....

Goes to show that Lorraine was at the vanguard of W.H. preservation.

i thought it rather ironic that english heritage had a fit of pique over this one considering what we know locally.

You've read this forum before Howard, personality is THE ISSUE to more than a few.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

The English Heritage decision regards the henge complex in the article, of which one part was tampered with, seems to imply that the whole area with all its holes and trenches is important.
If translated to Western Heights, this would mean. basically, that the whole area is a Heritage and must not be tampered with. So I'd reckon it goes further than the sole Grand Shaft, and includes the entire Heritage/SAM area.

You are quite right Chris, personality can make or break a project. Trying to save the heritage of Dover when it's in Dover is one thing but when it's a few hundred miles up the coast(and sunk) it really is something else. However it's only the distance that is the problem-fortunately there are some great personalities in Dover and on Teesside. All you have to do is engage and interact to promote preservation.
Never give up...

So - as the cage has now already been rattled, anyone know what is happening with the CGI proposal? Stated dates have passed, English Heritage and CPRE objections never made it onto the planning website and it has all gone very quiet...
