Originally Fitz meant "Son of", followed by the name of the father.
King Henry II received the name FitzEmpress because his mother's title is higher in rank than that of his father,
It was in a later period in history that the prefix was applied to British royals born outside of wedlock. This isn't the case of Henry II.
