  You mention the Mayor, Farley. There is a piece about him on our history scrapbook on the Dover Society website:

  Click on 'Characters' and there is a link to Sir Edwin Farley, also he is listed on the Mayors of Dover list, he seems to have been mayor for most if not all of the First World War years.
  
  And talking about the name Farley, these days it always reminds me of The Two Ronnies and their sketch about Charlie Farley the detective !!
