Lesley. Keith Howard,
Thank you so much for your welcome, yes over the coming days / weeks I'd like to comment on the town past and present from my perspective.
I'll start with my promotion in 1989 to work in Terminal Control after having endured 11 years working outside, all weathers in the freight section. I recall that my first 2 shifts were nights (12 hours) then after 2 days off back on days where Robin Dodridge was Landside Manager - he invited me into his office for a chat and I recall him saying ' although you've worked outside for 11 years don't think you're be inside here for long - I have big changes in mind'! And by the looks of it he was right - my last trip through the port last year I nearly saw a sole worker - so sad.
One thing that never changes in the port - there is always something being dug up, knocked down, blown up or demolished!
More later after I have had my mid-day pint or three in my local village pub!
Cheers for now.
Ian
