Good morning Dovorians!
I trust that it is OK to do this but...
I Just thought I'd introduce myself.
Although now living in South Norfolk, I am Dover born and bred- born 1946 in Limekiln Street attended Powell CP School (when it was brand new) then a term or 2 at Barton Road Secondary then Archers Court Secondary Modern (again when it was new).
My first job aged 15 was with W Wood & Sons the ironmongers in 4 Worthington Street and laterly 40-44 Pencester Road.
Left there in 1978 and joined DHB in the Freight section, eventually promoted to Duty Operations Controller 1989 - took voluntary redundancy 1995 - apart from working for BT Dover for 2 years I Have been semi-retired ever since.
I visit Dover regularly to visit family - indeed my uncle Sandford (Sandy) - (a D-Day Veteran) celebrated his 94th birthday yesterday.
I must confess to 'lurking' in this forum for some time and enjoy seeing how my old home is doing!
I have many fond memories of nights out in the pubs - in the 60s-70s-and 80s when you could do a great pub crawl 'round the town!
Enough for now.
Regards
Ian Handley
