12th and 13th JUNE 2010 - opening by the Mayor 10am Saturday. 10am to 4pm both days.
This year's event will again be in partnership with USO Field Concerts.
It is to be held in Pencester Gardens, Dover and the daytime activities remain totally free to all members of the public. As always the 'core' of the weekend will be a programme of 1940's themed entertainment.
Old favourites will be returning including the Swingtime Sweethearts and the Clover Sisters. Bud Flanagan and Max Millar tribute acts will also be performing. The Marine Cadets will be out to win back the Hellfire Corner Trophy from the Air Cadets.
There will be a range of 1940's civilian and military displays.
Armed Forces charities will be making collections including Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion and the Wings Appeal.
The Hellfire Corner Association would like to express our thanks to those who have provided invaluable support to our event. Dover Town Council who have provided a grant of £1,000 and practical help, Dover District Council for help facilitating the event and business sponsors, Blakes of Castle Street, Regency IFA, RS Entertainment and USO Field Concerts. Our Kent County Councillors have once again been unstinting in their support for the event including Councillors Nigel Collor, Julie Rook and Bryan Cope.
On Saturday evening we will have a 1940's dance at St. Mary's Parish Hall (7.30pm to 11.30pm). There will be displays of Lindy Hop dancing.
Advance tickets £8 (£10 on the door). It is an American Supper style evening so you can bring your own food and drink. Hot dogs will be for sale on the evening for £1.50.
Dress code 1940's civilian or allied uniforms preferred.
Dance Tickets are available from on 07972 194745 or 01304 213902.
I hope to see a lot of forumites over the weekend in Pencester and hopefully at the dance as well.

Barry
Thanks for your post and your Facebook invite; unfortunately, Michelle and I (together with Brian Rowland) won't be able to make it as we're in France that weekend and won't be back until Sunday evening. Shame, I was looking forward to the 40s weekend.
True friends stab you in the front.

This will be first one I shall have missed, as well. Shall be on the Maersk Dover working.
Always a great weekend, one of the highlights of the year.

Just back from a day conference and found a message.....
The Jive Aces have agreed (very favourable) terms to appear at the Hellfire Corner event doing 3 x 20 minute slots on the Saturday.
They are one of the top swing bands and are currently working at Chelsea Flower Show and do a lot of work with Kenny Ball.
No times for their performances yet as they will need to be worked in. I will publish the full programme as soon as it is confirmed nearer the day.
Remember - this daytime show is free.......

Ah deputy mayor Hammond (tee hee). Will you be on the Norfolkline tomorrow?

David, we used to go across regularly when the Green Jackets were based at Connaught. Their efforts in defending Calais helped take the pressure off Dunkirk to enable the evacuation to take place. Their sacrifice is not well recognised.

thanks for info barry.
Kathy
As is known I am not happy being photographed anyway so I like to change my name - at least the mercury didn't even give recognition in their two articles on Aspen so lets keep it that way! Not invited to norfolkline but one day I must try them.
Paul
So I learned but also I went to Dunkirk yesterday and they too are well prepared.
ps it wasnt official - I went for myself because I am keen on liaison with the near continong and believe that it is to our benefit. And I am kind of wound up in the historical things happening - watched an interesting film on history channel re dunkirk this am. Funnily enough the restaurant we went to welcomed us as british but weren't so friendly to the belgians who turned up!

Hell Fire Corner Weekend is now officialy registered with Help For Heroes and a stall will be supplied by yours truely.
I could only get £250 credit for goods and I don't intend sending any of it back.
Only a few T-shirts and,Teddy bears and flags but lots of smaller stuff for all to buy.
Please come to support the event ( and support H4H )
