This guy came thundering overhead late this morning..I scrambled and grappled to get a picture and managed to get it just as it disappeared over the castle way. There has been an upsurge in military helicopters lately for some reason. All very heavy helicopters...one came growling down the coast a day or two back and it looked like it had missiles in place. I don't know for sure...would it have been a black hawk?..or are they American. But anyway this one was a Chinook. You can certainly hear the military ones coming. But why so many helicopters lately and where are they landing. There isn't any military presence here in Dover anymore.. or is there??

No barracks Paul but both the farms in Lydden are still owned by the MOD and used as training grounds, though not as often as before.

The Chinook came low over Victoria Park, causing the windows to rattle.
Don't know where this one was going but have seen various choppers including Chinooks landing at the Coastguard station helipad.

I see the Chinooks regularly flying across Hougham area not far from the mast.Saw one again today flying the same route but seemed much lower than normal.

Anyone see this guy yesterday around teatime.. flying very low. Tremendous noise...the opposition on the battlefield could hear them coming long before they even see them. He came right overhead..flew around the cliffs a bit then went back westward from whence it came, all the while rattlin' the livin' daylights out of me Royal Albert !!
