It's been a well known fact for years that if you have corn flakes and milk all the nutrition comes from the milk. You might just as well have shredded paper and milk. Speaking of shredding, Shredded Wheat make excellent door stops.

Refined Sugar...far more costly than cocaine and far more deadly too.
BTW
The deformed Lamb issue I mentioned last week hit the national news last night. And, as for RSPCA approved duck, don't get me started.

how can this be, i have a box of "frosties" facing me now and it clearly states that the contents are fortified with vitamins and minerals - surely this could not be a lie?
tom
the lamb issue was on "countryfile" last sunday, they kept going on a about how tragic it was for the farmer.
i don't think the ewes would have been over the moon either.

Much of the Fortification of foods has long been a legal requirement. I hope this helps...

interesting read proves tha adage of "if you're enjoying it then it must be doing some good" even if it is only mentally.
to be honest i haven't a clue about the good or bad content of various foods mainly because i am not interested, i just want to enjoy what i am eating or drinking.

Ray, that was one crazy mixed up fellow. Things have improved for him because he finally stopped taking his own advice and embraced the thinking of his grandmother. Just in time, poor chap.
He never got as far from meat as he did from killing.
I eat no meat, but neither do I seek to replace it with facsimile stuffs, like soya.
For the most part what went wrong with him and what he says (and I agree) went wrong with diets in general is that there is too much processing going on.
For all the 'good' work the foundation* he mentions does Jamie Oliver went down like a lead balloon in the US.

It does make you wonder how much of the costs of IBS treatment the NHS could save with a bulk order for pork chops!

You can't beat porridge made with oat flakes and water, with fresh pear or blueberries, and nuts, with unsweetened low fat yoghurt.
We stopped eating packaged branded cereals many years ago. They are SO sweet anyway ! And full of nothing.

Porridge is the ideal breakfast, right enough and they manage to to fill the box.

Further to this, there's a program on BBC2 at 9.00 tonight showing why we only need three minutes exercise a week -

All we need now is a study showing 5 pints of real ale a day is slimming and we're all set for a happy life

slightly off topic but there was a bloke from the british dental association on the radio earlier rattling on about the 5 a day fruit and veg advice as wrong, saying that all the fruit people were supposed to eat damaged teeth because of the acid.
he added that children should be given milk and water instead.

There you are Tom and Kath following your posts I went out and bought some of this ready brek stuff..Tesco Instant Hot Oats, currently a bargain..well.. I thought it was an upgrade from CornFlakes following the recent news on suger content and assorted unpalatable details. I expect to be brimming with health and vitality forthwith...
I didnt look too closely at the label for fear of discovering some nasties in the content. I try and turn a blind eye, and go for the placebo effect. Well...Tom and Kath said it was okay. It's porridge innit?
Yes I heard a report the other day about the 5 a day not being good for teeth. You cant win with these reports. After years of encouraging kids to eat fruit in School Meals etc, remember the Jamie Oliver initiative, we are back now to square one...giving them milk like they always had previously is the best policy.
So called healthy fruity smoothies and so on are out..milk and water is in.
BUT...they need fruit as well so how do we pull that one off??

'An Apple a day keeps the Doctor away' but it seems not the Dentist!!!
'A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play' but what about your heart, teeth and waistline!!!!
'Drinka Pinta milk a day' well this one still holds water
Does anyone remember any more slogans?
You need to re-read Kath's post PaulB, Tesco's Instant Hot Oats is not real porridge, Geddit

My mother used to give us something called 'real porridge' and you could build motorways with it. You needed to be a weight lifter to get a spoonful in your gob.
Strewwth!!
Today the latest foodie report warns us of the dangers of Red Meat. Too much of it and you put yourself at risk of cancer and various other ailments of serious repute etc. This seems a serious report...however the western world's food supply is based on cattle and beef...so how can we take any real notice of this...other than furrowing a brow for a minute or two. There isnt much of a real alternative.
