I thought everyone knew these 'elf and safety' and 'PC gone mad' stories were all made up. Tales with little basis in reality, twisted by the likes of Richard Littlejohn to discredit systems put in place to protect people.

at one time it used to be "looney left" councils, the sun in particular used to pounce on save having to work for a story.
the editor got a knighthood then admitted that they had made most of the stuff up to please their readers.

I think that anyone that pooh-poohs health and safety, should NOT be allowed to wear a seat belt or drive a car with a crumple zone.
Perhaps unrelated, but I also think that anyone that uses 'tradition' for an argument should be made to go to work (or Las Vegas) on a horse.
