True story.
When I was teaching at DGSB and still had my yacht one of my colleagues asked if I could take him and his two sons out sailing.
We spent a while tacking backwards and forwards in the harbour and everyone having lifejackets I suggested we departed the Western Entrance for an hour 'at sea'.
Lovely sunny day and my colleague had fallen fast asleep when one of the kids said 'Mr F, I think I'm going to be sick'.
Told him to puke downwind and the poor little bugger turned puce and tried to turn himself inside-out.
Once things had settled I told him not to worry as Nelson had been sick most days at sea.
'What! Nelson Mandela?' he replied.
As I said true story.
1. WTF are they teaching in History nowadays?
2. What are they teaching in Geography? How longs the sodding crossing to Robben Island?

Well, I think what's called for is: Horatio the musical. Certainly one would have a number of genres to choose from.

I was chatting to a work colleague a few years ago and we were talking about the Berlin Wall and our experiences of it. A much younger colleague overheard and asked what the Berlin Wall was!
I also met Princess Anne a couple of weeks ago and when I told my 15 year old what I'd done, he replied " who is she"........and he goes to DGSB!

I met the lovely Princess Alice who was the Duke of Edinburgh's mother many years ago, but to widen the subject a little.
Worryingly I have noticed when watching almost any quiz show the number of times teachers do not know the answer to the simplest general knowledge question.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

"Normal for Norfolk - or NFN - most likely came from doctors to indicate the patient betrayed a peasant or rustic streak, or as a form of exasperation with patients who couldn't describe their symptoms."

We watched Family Fortunes the other night and one of the questions was ' Name a famous Dame'. The two teenage boys in the family admitted that they didn't even know what a 'dame' was! - Honestly!
