As from today Easter eggs are to be referred to as 'Spring Spheres' well that's according to one school in America no longer can the kids call them Easter eggs because of the religious undertones and you thought this country was PC crazy!!

What happens in American usually transfers over here.
Only a matter of time before some nutcase over here does the same.

I always thought Easter was a pagan name from the goddess Eostre(?) and I should imagine eggs have always been symbolic of this time of the year. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the bible makes any reference to 'easter' eggs or bunnies, just the resurrection that is coincidentally celebrated at the same time as an existing pagan festival...handy that.
So it looks like the egg is on their faces...if it's even true!

Spring spheres on their face more like. Mind you I suppose Paganism is a form of religion

Tom
Excellent stuff we sometimes forget the original meanings behind a lot of our well known festivals.

christmas taking over from yuletide being the main one.

I believe Easter has the same etymological root as oestrogen. The word is originally associated with fertility and spring rather than Christianity.
In Scandinavia, Christmas is still called Yule. God Jul is Happy Christmas in Swedish and the Christmas table is the Julbord.

I was raised RC and was told when young that we roll eggs down the hill to represent the rolling-away of the stone from the tomb (I'll let you guess which tomb) even then I thought this was stretching it a bit.
Mithras though, is an odd revelation, but while I do not attempt to lead you astray there is this...
