Sarah COOPER fortune teller and a member of an encampment of Gipsies was committed to gaol for 14 days for exercising her calling among the servant girls at a house in Clarence Lawn."
(Dover Telegraph 8 May 1847 p.8 col.1)
The SCAMP family too, were well known in the gypsy world, in Kent, and had most interesting Christian names: -
a few are: Sanspareil (= without parallel); Soloman; Nelson; Wellington; Safely; Faith; Riley; Gilderoy; Seely; Marsala; Lavinia, etc.
I suppose 'Servian' means Serbian to us. Interesting they had bears and monkeys.
