You may remember many full moons ago I predicted that once the Gurkha's serving in the army were afforded the same pay and conditions enjoyed by British Regulars that in my opinion it would sound the death knell to a 300 yr old tradition.

It wasn't because I was anti Gurkha far from it nor was it because I wanted two payscales but I was concerned that their attractiveness as cheap mercaneries would be lost as the army suffered brutal cuts in its force and favoured Brits over Gurkha's.

Well today it appears my fears for the Gurkhas was well founded as the MOD annouces yet further cuts.

A 150 will be told today to quit the army in the first wave of cuts. Here's what their Brigadier said...The head of Army manning, Brigadier Richard Nugee, said in April that the cuts to the 3,500-strong Brigade of Gurkhas were necessary following recent changes to the Gurkhas' terms of service that placed them on the same footing as the rest of the Army.
