I think we may be missing the point that should someone (crimbo) be found to be in possession of a properly licenced and secured firearm that those charges can be taken into consideration should other charges be dropped by the CPS or withdrawn on a technicality.
It's also important that members of the public feel 'protected' by restrictions being in situ with regards to the keeping of firearms.
Also guns need to be kept locked up so they don't fall into the wrong hands ie criminals and more importantly children who would treat them as play things,as has happened in the States where one son shot his brother for fun "just like on tv".
All illegal guns as BarryW puts it have to originate from somewhere they are not constructed on the back streets of Blackburn so the tighter control we have on the legal ones the less chance there is of them falling into the wrong hands.
