In the good old days i.e. until Ron retired you could pitch up and either he or Val would proudly show you round for nothing. But it's well worth £1. Having been involved in running the beer festival for the last seven years I have discovered loads of fascinating places in the town hall. Have to say though that the stairs in the tower are not for the faint-hearted.

there seems something wrong that we have to pay and only go at a certain time to see our own historic town hall.
i now it is only a quid, just seems wrong somehow.

All proceeds I believe are going to fix the Organ,Howard, not mine but the one in the Connaught Hall, all guides are volunteers and you visit only Stone Hall,The Chapel or remains of it now the Courtroom The Council Chamber and the Connaught room, ask about the mobile phone in the Vicorian Stained Glass!

I agree with Peter, there are some very interesting nooks and crannies. I was given a guided tour many years ago by a former town sargeant Arthur Little. However, due I suppose to H&S concerns these tours are full of facts and figures but sadly quite tame.
