Its our toothless and useless town council trying it's best to quell any decent rather than take a constructive approach and try addressing the issues, though I suspect if they went that way they would quickly find out how despised they are by the people of Dover.

I don't know why she bothered to be co-opted if she feels that way. The claim that 90% of Dover people want it abolished doesn't tally with the fact that approx 50% of people voted in the last elections in 2015.

The best place to be to try and make changes Howard, and as for voting when they put a none of the above box on the ballot paper, then quoting voter numbers will have some relevance.

I wish they would have that box on the voting papers.
As to Howard's comment, my daughter never bothers to vote but she would like to abolish DTC as she thinks they are a useless bunch.
I think that might be a fairly accurate figure I have can not think of any one I know or any post on any internet site where any one has wanted to keep Dover Town Council.

Failure to participate in voting is saying that you are prepared to put up with other peoples choice. You cannot complain when you do not like what they chose.
If you wan to be rid of an elected representative vote against them
If you want to be rid of an elected body then vote for someone who is proposing to do just that or even better put yourself up as a candidate on that platform....

I don't think we should give much credence to social media comments as it seems that all who post hate their Town/District/County councils and MP's. Town is the nearest so they get the most flak. Should Town/Parish Councils be abolished then local accountability will be even further removed from where it is now plus the day to day work will simply be transferred to District level saving on counc illors expenses but not on the more expensive staffing costs. I believe that government policy is to move some responsibilities away from District and Borough in accordance with their localism agenda.

What accountability do we have from DTC, and they do little meaningful work!

As a old ex town cllr I think that we should get rid of the town council with cost of running it now over £800.000 per year time for them to go.
