not surprised this has surfaced, roger has had this on various tourism strategies in the past.

"But district councillor Roger Walkden has accused the town council of taking the idea from him".
I haven't accused the Town Council of taking my ideas, I'd be pleased if they did though, but with perhaps some recognition.
I think that is an unfair comment the paper has come up with - I want the Town to succeed and wish the Town Team well on their second bid.

Perhaps Roger you should join us then, who ever came up with the idea it doesn't matter, but those who put it into practise are the Town Council and in the main it is Town Councillors who are walking the streets, including me on Sunday 10.00 to 12.00 then off to bed for my Night Shift 12 hrs 18.30 to 06.30.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Once John has warmed up the crowd, I get to don the blue shirt and horrible cap from 1 - 3 on Sunday. But no questions about the Big Telly please we don't want to swear and ruin the image.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

About Big Apple Greeter
Founded in 1992 as the first "welcome visitor" program of its kind in the United States, the idea grew from friendly exchanges Founder Lynn Brooks had with people she met on her own vacation travels around the world. Lynn realized that New York City suffered from an image problem: almost everyone she spoke to wanted to visit New York City, but thought the city was too dangerous, expensive and overwhelming. Lynn wanted the world to know New York City as she did: a great big small town with diverse neighbourhoods, mom-and-pop stores, fun places to dine, and friendly residents who go out of their way to help an out-of-towner feel welcome.
(From their official website)
In the last 20 years the 'greeters' idea has been watched and adopted around the world, with great success and now it is Dover's turn. Once again, we will be out at the weekend in our bright blue gear, ready to give directions, answer questions and tell visitors what is good about Dover. Of course what we do still need are more volunteers ready and willing to talk up the town and highlight the positives. You will be given a nice polo shirt, cap and use of a radio and all we ask in return is a few hours of your time and your enthusiasm for the town. People are often saying that we need to make more of this wonderful town and its heritage so why not help the Town Council spread this message? Just contact the DTC office (242625) and get further information.

Of course there are 2 sets of Greeters Kent Greeters organised by KCC Visit Kent and Dover Town Greeters organised by Dover Town Council,I am both,I met the founder of the Original New York Greeters in Canterbury last year, Lynn Brooks along with Greeters from around the world well America,France and Argentina amongst others.
It is a simple but great idea, and Dover Greeters would welcome anyone who can help with a few hours.
