    On the 22nd March 1862 Private Havard of the 64th Regiment of Foot was lashed fifty times on the parade ground of the Grand Shaft Barracks after being found guilty of six accounts under Court Martial. As he was dragged away, he asked for more.

    The parade ground is still there...
