I totally agree with him on that.
Some aspects of what Gove has been doing I disagree with but, overall one of the 'good guys' and destined for bigger things who has certainly got the measure of his opponents.

the teachers are carrying out their contracted work but he wants to dock their wages, has he worked out the legalities?
more importantly he is trying to wind them up instead o calming the situation.
barry
are you suggesting that teachers are the opponents of the education secretary?

I disagree with a huge amount of what he is suggesting in education. There are of course certain things that he says that do make sense. In this instance, he is just him making himself a name in politics as opposed to wanting better education for all.
I'm not sure he would agree with you Barry.

Howard - some are, those wedded to the discredited left wing 'pc' educational theories that have so damaged the quality of education in this country plus those who are left wing political activists.

You would have to elaborate on what you mean there Barry. By 'pc educational theory' do you mean not beating it into them?
Has it ever occurred to you why so many interested in education may lean towards left wing ideology? Or perhaps 'left wing political activists' are purposely damaging education to protect their pensions?

Barry your default position of left wing = bad, right = good doesn't really cut it. The problems with education in this country are many and varied but really nothing to do with left and right. It's a lack of academic rigour, coupled with the 'prizes for all' mentality that causes under-performance. And a refusal by teachers to have their performance measured individually doesn't help.

barry rather typifies the education debate by making it a political issue instead of one of getting the best out of children. i have known many teachers over the years and only 2 have had strong political views one from each end of the spectrum. the rest just would like to have the chance of getting on with the job without political interference.
as we all know this will never happen because all education secretaries feel the need to make their mark, the current one is no different.
