This is rather a refreshing story in todays economic climate regardless of what your politics may be but Gordon Brown ,remember him?.has been paid almost £500,000 since he quit Downing Street a year ago.But unlike former PMs, he has channelled the money into his charity projects and into the running costs of the office he shares with wife Sarah.
However, unlike his predecessors, Mr Brown has ploughed all the £493,620 he has made on top of his £65,738 MP's salary into running his office - or given the money to charity. Mr Brown lists all his outside earnings in the Register of MPs' Interests, writing with every entry: "I am not receiving any money from this engagement personally."
This is in stark contrast to Tony Blair, John Major and Baroness Thatcher who built up multi-million- pound fortunes after leaving No10. Mr Blair and wife Cherie have amassed up to £50million in assets since he stood down in 2007.
Thatcher shamelessly grasped cash from firms such as tobacco giant Philip Morris. But Mr Brown took an unpaid job last week co-ordinating strategy for the World Economic Forum.
