I post the above link because what's good news for Deal and Sandwich is also good news for Dover, strengthening our argument for reduced journey times on HS1 to/from Dover to the magic 59 minutes. Fastest I've done the journey recently was 1 hr 5 mins Dover-St Pancras. - 13 November 2013 15:05252346Yes interesting one Neil...but isnt it like pulling teeth, one piece at a time, only for another 6 months and then we wait all over again.

Sandys "Delighted" High-Speed Rail Services Set to Continue
Laura Sandys has said that she is delighted with the decision that will ensure that high-speed train services continue to serve Sandwich for at least the next six months.
Laura said "There was a real concern that we might lose our high-speed train service to Sandwich and Deal so Charlie Elphicke MP and I have been making it very clear to the Department for Transport just how important the high-speed trains are to local residents and businesses. We have been working extremely hard to ensure that this valuable service is protected
"I am very pleased that we now have confirmation that the javelin trains will keep running for the next six months but we want this to continue in the long term so I was particularly glad that the Rail Minister, Stephen Hammond MP, said that he is also "keen to see this vital route continue". DOVER DISTRICT COUNCIL WELCOMES EXTENSION OF HIGH SPEED TRAIN SERVICES
Dover District Council has welcomed today's announcement by the Department for Transport that High Speed rail services to Deal and Sandwich are to be extended for a further six months to October 2014 ahead of a formal franchise renewal process.
Cllr Nigel Collor, DDC Portfolio Holder for Access & Property, said: "We have worked hard with our partners to secure high speed services to Deal and Sandwich and welcome today's announcement as a logical extension of the service until the formal franchise renewal process begins.
"High speed train services are playing an essential role in the regeneration of the Dover District. Investors are showing strong levels of confidence in the Discovery Park Enterprise Zone, the St James's development in Dover, and the recent launch of the Betteshanger Sustainable Business Parks."
