Good news indeed Martin.
It is generally accepted that when the Port's freight numbers increase the economy is showing signs of improvement/growth although it may take next quarter to demonstrate the figures.
Hope this trend is accurate.

You are right Paul, the traffic flows, especially the freight, are usually a good barometer on the economy.

sorry Howard I obviously missed that, but perhaps good news deserves a thread of it's own?

Dover doesn't earn a dime from the Port traffic, we just get the pollution.

we will get even more pollution if the new terminal is not eventually built alex, heavy slow moving traffic heading to the eastern docks just adds to the problem.

"Dover doesn't earn a dime from the Port traffic?" What about the jobs the port sustains? What about the local suppliers? What about the hotels, shops and tourist attractions? Basic economics I would have thought. Of course the town benefits from the port! Yes, there are some negatives with the level of traffic, but let's get real about the economy without the port.

The vast majority of Dovorians, Kevin, don't earn a dime from the Port.
We just get the pollution. We don't get any Town investment from the Port of Dover.
Does that sound more exact?
And if ROAD Port traffic is to double over the next 27 years, as stated by DHB, we'll get double the pollution, regardless whether it goes to Eastern or to Western Docks. The pollution drifts into our lungs either way.
And, apart from a very small minority, Dover earns nothing from it.
