Like Sue, I've seen the revised concept for the St James area and it will be exciting when it is developed.
It was disappointing when Asda pulled out but I do wonder how serious they were all along - it was always going to be their next board meeting for a final decision.
Some said at that time that we didn't need another supermarket in town - I think that Morrison's have now proved that to not be correct and with Netto (Now owned by Asda nationally) seeking to enlarge their store the big 'T' is being taken on - competition can only be good for the town.
Developments do take a long time. I understand that the complex in Folkestone where Asda are and I hear not doing too well, took about 18 years. The St James site has complicated land assembly involved - Lidl are currently demolishing their building - the former MFI.
Believe me, I am as frustrated as anyone - possibly more - that nothing has happenied so far but, this tiime I'm feeling a lot more positive after seeing the proposal - in fact I made a comment at the meeting in that if the community could see the suggestion they would say just get on with it - and that's what we need to do.
