Was at the Western Heights and had a low flyover by the Police chopper as it went to the docks by the Breakwater. The Lifeboat was there, as was I think the Police boat and I think one of the DHB boats.
Any ideas what was going on ?
Been nice knowing you :)

Hi Scotchie yes I saw all this going on. It struck me that they may be looking for a body. Seemed like the usual routine. There was the helicopter as you said, the Lifeboat, the small lifeboat launch, the police boat, the harbour patrol boat, and even the tour boat owned by Mr Mahoney(?) joined in.
Whatever it was anyway..they didnt seem to find anything...as far as i can tell. The full story may emerge later.

Heard on the Radio Kent coastguard report this morning that a towel and goggles were found on the beach resulting in a search for a possible missing person but no-one was found and the items turned out tio have been left by an early morning bather.
What a silly billy lol
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
I bet the search teams thought he was a silly billy to .

Well done for clearing that up Jacqui..knew one of the forumites would get the info through so a well done there. No bodies to contend with then, but a heck of an effort was made over the search. You know we are all money conscious these days what with the country in hock and whathaveyou, so I guess it must have cost a fair bit to do all that yesterday.
But at least a non fatal outcome.
Well done with the info

RNLI alerted over missing person in Dover Harbour
Date: 04/05/2010
Author: Tony Hawkins, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer
The volunteer crew of Dover lifeboat were called out on 3 May to a report of a possible missing person in the outer harbour. The alarm was raised after swimming goggles and clothing had been found on the beach.
At 1445hrs Dover RNLI Lifeboat City of London ll launched in strong north-easterly wind under the command of coxswain Stuart Richardson and six crew. The search area was the outer harbour and just to the west of the harbour walls.
The lifeboat along with the Dover harbour launch, Dover harbour police boat and the trip boat Southern Queen searched the harbour for two hours. Kent Police helicopter and Coastguards searched the seafront and beaches. At 1700hrs the Coastguards and police confirmed that the clothing had been left on the beach sometime on the Sunday. Therefore at 1715 the search was called off. Coxswain Stuart Richardson would like to thank all the vessels that helped with this search in cold and windy conditions.
