    Jan, going back to your post #16, you seem to me missing the simple fact that retirement ages are being moved back because of the previous government's overspending.

    This means all persons under a certain age are now being forced to work later in life before the state pension kicks-in.

    Luckily for me, I just scrape in and can still retire, if I choose, at 65. Because of the nature of my work, where experience counts as much as academia, if not more in some situations, I foresee me working until 70, health permitting.

    I think most of us would prefer to retire earlier and enjoy a bit life before pegging out, but that choice is now denied to millions whether we like it or not.
