  We all need something to believe in, or what's the point? Since time began people have had to find a reason for things that happen - rainstorms, thunder, crops failing, even death. Since then there have always been "gods". There is evidence that even in mesolithic times people were erecting monuments as ritual sites.
  If there is a God, he is the same for all, whatever he is called and whoever worships him.
  Having a God gives a framework to living what might be termed a good (as opposed to bad) life.
