  as far as i know there is not a religion that says "god" will intervene in anything.
  the general idea is that we behave as human beings i.e. nut cases and the less evil of us get some sort of promotion when we die.
  if he/she did stop all the bad things, life would be incredibly boring and would have no point to it.
  
  crudely put but fairly accurate.
  
  there have always been gods since the dawn of time, always will be.
  
  some societies try to stamp out religion, but it is part of the human psyche and will not go away.
