    Jan,
    "that population has needs"

It is my firm belief that it is 'needs' that begets the population in the first place.

It is the dread of death and disease, and knowledge of an despicably uncertain future that drives many in the developing world to breed regardless of the objective view taken by we in the west/developed world.

The really important question is not...
"How are we to cater for a continuing and seemingly endless population explosion?"
    But,
How can people in the developing world come to know that a stable future is not only possible, but that all efforts in the developed world are bent to that end?

'We' hand out fish after fish, and wonder where our fish shall come from. When, instead, we should be walking the talk of gifting the developing world the fishing rods in order for them to become self-sufficient.

Really, if anybody in the UK wishes to effect this perceived population increase in a positive way, each could do far worse than to cease expecting to find out of season fruit and vegetables upon the shelves of our Supermarkets.
