LMAO!
It never ceases me the mad ideas, well meaning but very stupid locals come up with to 'bring tourists to the town'.
Here in Deal the latest mad proposal, in spite of the fact that almost all post-war public art has been crap, is a statue of Elizabeth Carter to tie in with her anniversary next year.
This is of course the latest in a long list of statues proposed to celebrate the latest discovery of a connection with the town by someone whose statue will obviously (sic) become as iconic as that of Nelson in Trafalgar Square or Liberty in New York Harbour.
Perhaps we could satisfy all the various groups by having a latter day version of Rodin's Burghers of Calais (Possibly renamed the Burgers of Calais to raise sponsorship?)
The tablea could show Elizabeth Carter possibly shaking hands with Norman Wisdom, observed by Julius Caesar, newly landed on Walmer beach, holding hands with Charles Hawtree, to celebrate Deal's gay community, and all watched over by the three Heroes of the Goodwin Sands to show the lifeboat connection.
Even I would travel some distance to see that!
