My younger brother had some pretty damning experiences at his Job Centre in Southampton - all the staff should have been sacked.
The Lady in charge of the Job Centres should be sacked too.

Yes, that's right. Sack everyone who works in jobcentres. Some of us who worked in them tried damned hard to get people work, and when it happened it was great, fantastic to recieve a handshake or a pint for helping someone. Still, there you go.
Dont worry phil , you have your gold plated public service pension to fall back on and the sheer joy of putting your feet up on the desk for 8 hours a day whilst twirling your public funded moustache and practicing a bloated ( insert general insult to suit ) cackle whilst failing to do your job . Or maybe like me you put a lot of hard work into doing your job with many many hours of unpaid overtime , but who wants to spoil a thread with a few facts

There is a lot of nonsense in the article, because they're not stupid at the Job Centre.
Signing on since 2009! I signed on at the end of 2009, but by mid 2010 had the decency to become at least part-time self-employed, and so-by reduce my JSA, until June 2011, when I signed off completely.
These two guys will be penalised! As claimants, they have admitted to benefit fraud, and I hope they don't earn the quick buck on the TV with their expertise on "what they managed to pull off while filming it".
For me, as for MANY others, signing on was a genuinely protracted nightmare, and at first I was too ashamed of myself!
I started working at the age of 10 in Dover, part-time, three nights a week in restaurants!
My mate, at the age of 10, got up every morning at 4.30 to do the milk-round as a helping hand, and could even drive the milk float. He never got to school late.
He earned on tips!
My sister started part-time work at 14, my brother started full-time employment at 14 (he made up for the lost education later at a course).
My mum was working full-time at 14, and my dad at the age of 12 started part-time work.
What has this Country come to?
As said, I hope these two fellows in the article don't earn a heap of money on their benefit fraud pranks by presenting it to the TV and getting "exclusive payment" for the show. It simple would not be fair on the many who do look for work and literally count the pennies until they manage to find a job.

Sorry Phil - wasn't trying to be rude to you; it was mainly aimed at the Job Centre my brother attended in Southampton.
As I say, I'm not talking about Dover's Job Centre; the only experience I have of that was after I sold our guest house, I wanted to look for a job; I was told I had no, or next to no, chance of finding one, they did pay my Nat.Ins for about three months, then I gave up and stopped going.
Mind you many of those attending the job centres, don't want a job anyway - not all of course.

The 'media' are doing a pretty successful job in demonising all areas of the public sector. It could not be that our 'free and fair' press are fulfilling a corporate agenda, could it?.

I wouldn't have said that John.
If things are wrong - in the private as well as public sector, they should be exposed. They've done a pretty good job on the Banks; if the job centres are not delievering - and many are not bringing forward the ideas from Ministers, then it is right that those bad practices are brought to our attentions - many know thios already.

The last place I would look for an employee is the JobCentre and would never advertise there.
In my current business I only have an administrator and have used word of mouth when recruiting, putting the word out among contacts. Previously I have used private agencies and media advertising - never JobCentres.
I never used JobCentres either when I was looking for work before setting up my own business. Waste of time.

the head honcho of jobcentre plus came over as completely out of touch with what went on and the main impression given was that staff were simply not trained well enough to give the best advice.

I agree with that Howard. The Head of the Job-Centre-Plus is not ensuring that the Job-Centres implement Ministers instructions.
