  Just been told Gerry Rafferty, writer of the classic Baker Street amongst many other great songs has died. Deaths seem to come in a cluster so apart from Pete Postlethwaite has there been any others. Seems to always be in threes, perhaps Jeane will be able to answer that. Another sad loss.

  Yes it is a shame about Gerry Rafferty and younger than Pete Postelthwaite.

  That was one heck of a record Baker Street. Hugely impacted at the time. Before he did that as a solo guy, he was in a folk band that was also successful. Gosh forget the name...was it Steeleye Dan or Steelers Wheel...PB ponders with finger in gob while gazing into the distance. Im sure one of you guys will know.

  Ah well done Ray. Knew one of our informed membership would know in no time. Chris Precious is usually very good on all this stuff too...was expecting Chris to pop up any minute.

  Steeleye Span were a folk group I think, didn't they have a female singer and do 'All Around My Hat'. I must admit I am not a music buff, I might know the tunes but very seldom who did them.

  I think both the bands mentioned were folk groups. We have to remember folk bands were very popular once.

  Paul, correct on Steeleye Span, I even saw them in Dover Town Hall once and they still tour.
  
  Steely Dan are a US rock band with jaz/funk influences ("Reeling in the years" ring a bell?) I won't explain the origin of their name as it's before the watershed
