I expect so, Howard. Despite all the howling protestation from the Little Englander brigade the Euro will be protected and it will survive and prosper. European integration is also going to be a fact of life if Europe is to compete with the growing economic powerhouses. Some may like to to think we can pull out of the EU and return to Merrie Olde England, dancing around our May Poles, drinking warm beer and watching cricket on the village green but, as we did this, we would watch the the BRICS marching off into the future leaving us to fester in our supposed 'golden age'.
We need an honest debate about the EU and the Euro but, as with most things political, we are unlikely to get one.

Mark - dream on with your little European dream..... No-one else thinks that, you are on a limb. The Euro was ill-conceived in the first place and the only way it can carry on is by Germany taking control of the economies of all the Eurozone countries and the political damage of that could tear the whole sorry mess of the EU down. These sticking plasters cannot carry on being applied for ever and for as long as this happens the Euro will remain a threat to the world economy while damaging Europe's and our recovery with the biggest damage being done to the weaker European economies, the PIGS.

Now now Brian - better a 'Little Englander' than a Eurofanatic putting his own vanity before doing what is needed to solve the European financial crisis. That's not you by the way, but those ostriches in the EU Commission and European governments.

Whilst I am a europhile I recognise that
a) the underpinning ideaology for the euro was always greater economic integration
b) in order to achieve a) greater political integration is required
Without both of the above the euro is doomed to failure as the economic gap between core and periphery and between east and west is too great to paper over for long, particularly in the bad times.
The reality of the German bail out of the euro will be greater economic power and power/veto over economic policy for the Germans, if it was us we would demand and expect the same.
The ONLY way for the eurozone to stabilise and take its place as a major reserve currency is the creation of United States of Europe with fiscal, monetary and economic policy controlled centrally
