Roger, the structural defecit, that which will not be reduced over the next growth cycle by economic growth is estimated at £90bn. This is what must be dealt with within the next 7/8 years as that is the legth of a normal growth cycle before we hit a recessionary buffer. We do not have 25 years to deal with it or the starting point for the next recession will be as bad as the starting point for this one, or worse.

GO himself said that the measure announced in his speech were only a start, yes worth £7bn as PaulB said. Other measures have been announced, an end to ID Cards, the regional government structure, the NHS database and so on. The whole way Government does business will be changing as a way to deal with this defecit.

My own concern is that DC still sticks to his beliefe that it can be done while not reducing NHS spend. the NHS should be suject to budget cuts with only the MoD's overall budget protected.

DC says smaller Government is needed and that is what we will be getting and people will have to get used to Government not poking its nose into everything and to stop looking to Government and legislation to solve every problem, if only because Governments make things worse more often than not as well as costing a fortune.

The next Parliament will be the most radical ever.

PaulB - It is sad that you persist in this class war rubbish. It seems to be all Labour supporters have to hang on to and that says it all really.

Keith - open your eyes, the truth is being told by the Conservatives, Labour are still trying still to hide behind lies. The public have caught on.
