  Brian - Hamas are a terror organisation backed by Iran who have openly declared that they want Israel wiped off the map. To suggest they are not the problem is absurd. The election of Hamas meant that unless they changed their ways and looked for a more peaceful accomodation instead of targetting Israel with rockets this retaliation was inevitable.
  
  What on earth would you do if you was Israel, sit and ignore the bombardment? One sign of weakness from the Israelis and their many enemies will take advantage of it leading to an even bigger tragedy. Israel are doing what they need to do for survival.
