    My grandfather had a small part in the construction of the Gateway Flats. When the builders had a problem pile driving and one of the piles went off course, they called in the firm he worked for to extract the wayward column overnight. This apparently involved welding plates to the column, jacking it up, welding plates futher down, jack it up, and so on until it comes out of the ground.
