19:0070160 I cut the lawn about an hour ago, and usually we get a couple of blackbird`s or a thrush straight afterward`s looking for insects or worms. This time though, our robin appeared, who we`ve been seeing all Summer, (if it`s the same one). I managed to catch him this time. Last week, we had the unusual sight of four thrush in the garden at once, even though this year I`ve personally seen two snatched by a bird of prey and one taken by a scumbird, (sorry magpie). This bird of prey has been taking a number of dove`s from round our way as well, which neighbour`s have witnessed. Anyone else relate to any of above?

19:0970161Yes Colin we see this happing all the time in the back garden the white doves have almost gone we had up to about 8 at one time but they get taken out when in the air, by the birds of prey you see them waiting for them to take off from the ground and then they move in on them ,but there is nothing we can do about it, apart from not puting seed out.

20:0770164White doves sound like escaped domesticated stock - giving their lives to keep our indigenous birds of prey fed sounds like a very noble thing to do!

21:5370170Robins are very territorially aggresive birds too, despite their pretty look. We've had robins for years habiting in our back garden, and consequently we see very few other birds, apart from magpies, daring to land.

07:2570199I have my laptop in our conservatory (a bit chilly this morning) and with a blind up in front of me, I have a good view of the plants etc. outside.
Two little Blue Tits came fluttering by and landing on one the plants, proceeded to find things to nibble on. I also saw a Robin on a close by pot - lovely.
We don't often gets little birds in the garden, it's mostly blackbirds, thrushes and magpie sized ones.
It was funny because shortly after, I had an email from the RSPB, asking if I'd like a booklet on birds in the garden, so I sent away for it.

09:4070510Robins are fearless. Here is a photo of a robin's nest in a tub I was growing spinach in.
It raised a brood and there was one unhatched egg left in the nest.
Needless to say we did not pick spinach for a while !

15:5471154 I took this picture of a thrush in our garden at the beginning of the month, when we had 4 at once in the morning. Sadly, there hasn`t been a sign of any thrush`s or blackbird`s or the large number of sparrow`s we`ve had for a number of days now, which we haven`t witnessed in 25 years of living here. The dove`s have also mostly disappeared, but I know who the culprit is. It`s a sparrow hawk, which I`ve witnessed snatching 2 thrush`s and one blackbird in the last month or so, and they`re just the one`s I`ve seen. The garden has become practically devoid of bird`s, except for a couple of wood pigeon`s. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes if I forget to fill our bird food dish I get squaking fly by's! I can feel their beady eyes on me when I'm putting the food out and within seconds they are in!
