Just because you don't take an interest in politics doesn't mean that politics won't take an interest in you. PERICLES.

Yes its really that simple, next time you're diagnosed with a terminal illness simply kneel down and pray.
You are an insult to all those decent people who have faith of one kind or another with your banal remarks.

The latest wasteful poster campaign from the NHS urges us to consult a pharmacist at the first signs of colds and coughs, presumably so that we leave our GP alone. There cannot be anyone that doesn't know a cold lasts a few days and cannot be cured. Why would anyone waste the time of a qualified pharmacist when if they so desire things like cough syrups, Lem sip, paracetamol etc are freely available at any convenience store.

Speaking to my other half about that very subject and we concluded it was so they could sell us the hugely marked up cough and cold medicines to bolster their bottom line!

Howard and Reginald, it could all depend on what long term medication you might be on.
The pharmacist can advice which over the counter medication will not have an adverse affect on those you are already taking.

Not the case Jan I used to knock around with a Pharmacy dispenser years ago and they have access to a book not available to the public which decrees which medicines react against others. Cold "remedies" were so weak that they were considered to be placebos. People feel better sometimes by paying many pounds for a pain killer when Savers sell a small drum with the same ingredients for 20 pence.

Some decongestants in cold remedies should not be taken by people with or at risk of narrow angle glaucoma and are not advisable for some with hypertension. Also some asthmatics should avoid ibuprofen which is also in some cold & flu products.

#10 BNF ( BRITISH National Formulary) now available online or search drug name and contraindications results are often pretty scary though.

Howard, I think Judith has proved my argument, once you know from a pharmacist what medication disagrees with another then it is safe to buy from wherever you like.
