Full credit to Kent Police for getting to grips with lorries overtaking each other in the restricted area on the A20 just past Aycliffe.
I received many complaints about the 'no overtaking for heavy vehicles' signs being ignored so took the issue up with Kent police who advised that they would increase their presence there. Just last week when returning to Dover on the A20 I saw a police motorcycle patrol in the area and have now been advised by the Kent Roads Policing in that in 2010 135 lorries were stopped for overtaking within the restricted area and in the ten weeks so far this year the total is 25.
This overtaking practice is extremely dangerous and could cause sideswiping. I understand that VOSA are still giving drivers of LH drive lorries Fresnel lenses at the port that enable a much better vision on the blind side - we need to keep our roads safe.
I BET NOT, and when are they going to stop them spilling out of the lay-buys at the top of the hill if a car or coach caught fire there is no safe place to pull in
