  just tuned into bbc local news and caught the end of an interview with council leader and forum member paul w.
  
  he seemed rather disappointed about something then the programme turned to an issue at manston airport, then sandwich followed by hastings.
  
  the prevalent theme seemed to be deprivation and unemployment, did anyone see the full interview with paul?

  The item was the disappointing news that Pfizer hasnt made into the the Enterprise Zone listing. I see there is another thread on this now too, but despite the heavy involvement of Minister Willlets, assorted MP's like Laura Sandys and Charlie Elphicke, and of course more local big guns like Paul Carter, Paul Watkins and others...and despite the very big news coverage on the closure...it all seems disappointingly flat.
  
  The suggestions on the other thread of having a hospital on the site is not a runner, there is a huge hospital a few short miles away.

  the game is not yet over keith, my understanding is that there about 20 new enterprise zones to be announced.
  
  i have reservations over their effectiveness though, these were started by "the lady's not for turning", all that happened was that jobs were moved into them, very little new employment created.

  Second round of ten Enterprise Zones to bid for.
  
  I'm not sure what was broadcast but I did say I was cautiously optimistic for inclusion in the next round. you never know what section of the interview they will pick. Better to do live then they can't edit you.
  
  The first round announcements are crafted predominately around the City Region grouping of the North & other limited vicinities.
  
  The expectatation is that the newly formed Local Enterprise Partnerships will endorse not more than one within their groupings.
  
  There is a set of nine objectives to pass to qualify before you get to the "beauty contest" stage.
  
  We are well down the road of producing the necessary evidence for an autumn decision.
